Lewiston High School’s Riley Way has always been widely regarded as one of north Idaho’s most prolific threats in any sport he plays. The thousand-yard receiver, dynamic three-point shooter and keystone of the Lewiston Bengal infield finally gets his day in the spotlight as he is honored with this week’s P1FCU “Prep Athlete of the Week” award.

Over the last four years, Riley Way has grazed Lewiston School District fields and courts as one of the most elite athletes the school has seen in recent history. But playing sports year round is bound to wear a guy out, but Riles wouldn’t have it any other way.

"I love it,” said Way. “I love playing four sports, always being active and just staying busy all the time, I mean 5A sports is all around challenging and I just love the challenge. It motivates me."

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native is off to a red hot start to the year. Way is hitting .571 over 28 AB’s and it’s his approach which has led to his hot start.

"I always think gap to gap, base hits,” said Way. “To me thinking base hits, you’re most likely going to get a base hit."

The man who likes to fish in his spare time, committed to play for LC-State last summer, and he says he couldn’t have found a better fit.

"I love the way they play I mean they're, I've been playing with it since I was like 14-years-old so I just thought it fit me and that's when I really started developing my game was with LC baseball,” said Way.

The LA Dodger fan who mans the middle of the infield for the Bengals says his role model on the field plays for the Cleveland Indians.

"I'm a Francisco Lindor fan,” said Way. “I like his game a lot, he's smooth, I love the way he plays and he's my favorite player for sure."

Way’s high school career will soon come to a close, but he’s glad to finally say that he is a P1FCU “Prep Athlete of the Week” award winner.

We hope you enjoyed meeting Riley this evening. Each week throughout the school year KLEW Sports and P1FCU team up to highlight a deserving athlete in the area.
