KLEW cares about the community, and that’s why every week we profile students who excel in and out of the classroom. This week’s Academic All-Star is from Nezperce High School.

Nezperce senior Katy Riggers is on her way to becoming her high school’s salutatorian when she graduates in May. She’s involved in almost every extracurricular activity as well.

“Oh boy, FCCLA, HOSA, CUIO, Girls Club, National Honors Society, and I play the piano,” said Katy.

Those are just some of the ten she’s involved in, but how does she balance ten clubs and a 3.96 GPA?

“A lot of late nights, after practice or after piano,” she explained.

Some good ole family competition is her biggest push to excel. “I’m not going to lie; I really want to be better than my brothers.”

Family’s given Katy more than just friendly competition, its given way to a possible career path.

“So when I was little, my dad always told me stories, and so I kind of grew a liking to stores. History is just one big story,” Katy said.

Although history is an option, Katy said she wants to go into International Business at Montana State in the fall.

“I really want to help people and I know that I can expand on that through business.”

Congratulations Katy, you’re this week’s Academic All-Star.
