Kicking is a way of life for Academic All-Star Kaysha Bailey
LEWISTON, ID —
KLEW cares about you, that’s why every week we feature a local student who is excelling in and outside the classroom.
KLEW News Reporter Shannon Moudy introduces us to our “Academic All-Star” Kaysha Bailey.
This Lewiston Bengal gets her kicks on the soccer field.
"I love the thrill,” said Bailey. “Everything's exciting, everything's moving."
Kaysha Bailey has been the goalkeeper on Lewiston’s Varsity Soccer team for four years. She’s even been recognized twice as “Goalkeeper of the Year” in the North Idaho League. Her position on the field reflects her personality.
"Their role is to lead the team and direct them,” said Bailey. “I like to be a leader and not a follower."
Her other favorite sport also involves some kicking and allows her to be a role model.
"I've done karate since I was about four-years-old, and now I am working at my dojo and helping little kids out so they can be black belts too,” said Bailey.
This black belt and 3.71 GPA student is headed to Grand Canyon University in Arizona, where she’ll play goalkeeper on their team. She’s planning on studying to become a physical therapist. And always a team player, Kaysha says she couldn’t have done it without her biggest supporters.
"Definitely my parents,” said Bailey. “They push me all the time to get good grades.”
Congratulations Kaysha Bailey, you’re this week’s “Academic All-Star.”
