CLARKSTON, WA -- A big moment for Asotin County Fire District #1 as they broke ground this weekend for their new fire station located on Appleside Boulevard just down the street from their old one.
Retired fire officials turned the dirt in this symbolic ceremony.
Chief Noel Hardin said the new station will be able to have all their apparatus under one roof now. But most important, this event is the result of a lot of hard work from everyone in the community.
“The community did a lot of work from the firefighters and being able to see the gentleman today to turn that dirt in this ceremony is really a piece of history because we've needed to grow with the community for a long time and this really marks part of that growth that here in the near future we'll be in a new station that will better serve the community,” said Chief Noel Hardin.
This is the first phase of the new station. They will be doing excavation work, like putting in sewer lines and such.
This fall they hope to bid out the building portion and hope to have it done in time to open next year, maybe even next summer.
