Colfax High School's Valedictorian Pearl Griffiths is this week's "Academic All-Star"

KLEW cares about you, and that's why every week we feature a local student excelling in and out of the classroom. This week's "Academic All-Star" comes to us from Colfax High School.

Meet Pearl Griffiths, a senior from Colfax High School. Aside from being this year's valedictorian and maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Pearl has been involved in the "Family Careers and Communities Leaders of America."

"You don't have to be involved in anything," said Griffiths. "You can be in everything. It's kind of what you make of it."

And Pearl sure made the most of her opportunity making it all the way to nationals in Washington, D.C. She says FCCLA has helped her with her leadership skills.

"I used to be a quiet side, but through this program I've really come out of my shell," said Griffiths.

Pearl will continue to use these skills as she moves onto college. In the fall she will be attending Gonzaga University to study biology and then eventually move onto medical school. She wants to be just as involved there as she is in Colfax.

"I want to find places in my college community where I can do community service for, help other people and volunteer," said Griffiths.

Congratulations Pearl Griffiths you're this week's "Academic All-Star."
