LEWISTON, ID — Another tragic car crash at a notoriously dangerous intersection near the Clearwater River Casino, leaves one woman dead and several others injured, Monday afternoon around 12:30 on U.S. Highway-95.
Idaho State Police said 67-year-old, Iona "Ruth" McConville of Lapwai, tried to make a left-hand turn from the south entrance of the casino onto Highway-95. She was hit by a van driven by Ivan Trautman heading towards Lewiston.
ISP said McConville failed to yield to Trautman, and was hit on the driver’s side pf her car.
According to ISP, McConville was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, where she later died of her injuries.
Three people in the van were also treated at the scene including two children.
The next of kin has been notified and this investigation is ongoing.
Iona Ruth McConville was the Mayor of Lapwai.
The city of Lapwai released this statement:
“Iona Ruth McConville, Mayor of Lapwai, passed away on the afternoon of December 10, 2018. City Hall will be closed on December 11, 2018, and will reopen December 12, 2018. The city wishes to extend its condolences to the mayor’s family, and many friends, colleagues and staff in this time of loss.”
