Deputies: Cottonwood man tries to elude at high speed, then hides

Idaho County deputies arrested Michael Matson Thursday after they said he sped away from them and drove through Stites at 100+mph.

Idaho County deputies arrested Michael A. Matson, 26, of Cottonwood Thursday night for Felony Eluding, Possession of Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Possession of Paraphernalia, Reckless Driving, and Driving without Privileges.

According to a press release, Deputies Sam AuGello and Roberto Hernandez tried to stop a 2008 Dodge Charger on Main Street in Kooskia at 8:25 p.m.

"The vehicle momentarily pulled over then rapidly accelerated, turned and fled south of Highway 13," officials wrote.

Matson is accused of driving at speeds higher than 100 miles per hour, traveling through Stites, onto Stites Grade Road, then onto Batlle Ridge Road.

Near the top of Lower Battle Ridge Road, the vehicle stopped and deputies said Matson ran up the hillside, laid down, and tried to hide.

As the time of this report, Matson was in the Idaho County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
