Get Your Flu Vaccine Now
The time to get your flu shot, is now.
According to the Whitman Count Health Department there have already been three confirmed cases of influenza in the United States, and flu hasn’t season hasn’t even started.
"It's preferable to try and get the flu shot two to three weeks prior to the start of the flu season,” said community nurse Deanna Claybaugh.
Your body can take a couple of weeks to build up immunity from the time you get the flu vaccine.
Come October 1st, the Centers for Disease Control starts tracking outbreaks.
The Washington State Department of health reports 296 influenza deaths in the 2017-2018 season.
And the 2017-2018 flu season lasted from November to early April.
Those most at risk are the elderly, young children and those with compromised immune systems.
"Healthy people have died from getting the flu” said Claybaugh.
The vaccine is not 100-percent effective but it's the best solution for the time being.
