Low voter turnout in Nez Perce County leaves officials worried

LEWISTON, ID - And in continuing coverage of the Primary Elections, one statistic from Tuesday has Nez Perce County officials worried.

According to clerk Patty Weeks, the Primary Elections ran smoothly overall, with just a few technical problems that were eventually worked out, however voter turnout was extremely low.

We have a lot of leftover ballots," said Nez Perce County Clerk, Patty Weeks. "Our voter turnout was the second lowest in the last 20 years for a Primary Election we had 17.41% turnout. The lowest was actually in 2006 when we had 17.04% turnout."

Despite more than 19,000 registered voters, only 3,389 people voted in this year's election.
