For the second year in a row, Moscow is home to a great honor. KLEW News Palouse Bureau Chief, Alex Crescenti introduces us to Miss Idaho USA 2017.

This was the moment for Cassie Lewis…crowned as Miss Idaho USA 2017. She says when she heard her name as a finalist, it was hard for her to control her emotions.

“Being their top two, there was some many emotions, but when they finally called my name it was like all that hard work had paid off,” said Lewis.

Cassie is a local from the Palouse. She grew up in Colfax, Washington, graduated from Central Washington University, but she fell in love with the city of Moscow, has been a resident for three years now, and is moved by the outpouring of support from her community during this past week.

“Even though Miss USA Idaho isn't the biggest state I feel like I have the biggest cheering section in the world,” said Lewis.

This is only her second year competing in Miss Idaho USA. Last year, she placed second runner up to Sydney Halper, a fellow Moscow resident who won Miss Idaho USA 2016.

As Miss Idaho 2017, Cassie would like to use her platform to mentor young Idahoans and encourage them to go after their dreams.

While this week has been filled with memories that Cassie will never forget, she says having this crown means she gets to be a role model to all young women across the state and throughout the nation.

“They're at such a pivotal point in their lives deciding who they want to be, what they want to do and I really just want to encourage them,” said Lewis.

The date for the Miss USA competition has not been set yet, but will take place sometime next year in the spring or summer, but Cassie says she will be preparing in the meantime.
