Firefighters were on the scene of a wildland fire Monday night. Fire crews from three different agencies worked together to knock down the flames. They attacked the fire from the air, as well as from the ground.

Flames broke out just before three o'clock Monday afternoon, about a half mile west of the Port of Wilma. Firefighters were challenged with the day's heat, some wind and the hillside. But crews were able to knock it down and keep it from spreading.

The cause is under investigation, but fire officials said this area has an on-going problem with fires and they believe this one may have started due to an underground pipe combusting.
