P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week: CJ Hein

For this athlete, we went back to Clarkston High.

This athlete is a captain in more ways than just on field.

If you ever saw a Clarkston High school halftime show, you would probably wonder: why is that football player conducting the band?

Well, that's Clarkston senior CJ Hein.

Not only is he a team captain for the Bantams, but he's also in the band.

"I have a huge passion for both band and football, especially for marching band," Hein said.

And he isn't just another member of the band.

He is the senior drum major.

For those who don't know, that's kind of a big deal.

"He's basically the football captain, the quarterback of the marching band,” he said.

Being a leader on the field and in the band, does have its long days.

"We have marching band rehearsal right after football. So, it's about a 13-hour day for me at school on Tuesday and Thursdays," he said.

Fortunately, he's not alone.

"We actually have a couple football players other than me, who are doing both,” He said. “Isaiah Ewing is our star guard and he's out there with me. We also have a few lower kids also."

And even though he probably wishes he had a clone, there's a ton of support for him about his activities.

"We've gotten more praise than we've had discrimination. People say it's so cool that we're doing it and all this stuff,” He said. “And how awesome it is that we have such a diverse program that we can do whatever we want and have it work out."

For Hein, sports and all his other activities come together in perfect harmony.

Hein is also a President of the Senior ASB and has a 3.8 GPA.

So, like all these Prep Athletes, very busy kids.
