P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week: Edward Becker
GENESEE, ID —
This week’s prep athlete comes to us from Genesee High School and Bulldog football is all he knows.
Genesee senior running back/linebacker Edward Becker has Genesee football in his DNA.
“I’m a big Genesee football historian,” Becker said. “So, I know everything all the players, who they are, and what they did.”
You can assume where he grew up…
“Beckers have been here since they’ve been dirt,” Becker laughed.
He isn’t the first in his family to suit up In the Bulldog blue.
"My dad played football, and my uncle Michael played football. My cousin Jeff Becker, he played football too. My grandpa played football too. My cousins, Dave and Eric played football. My uncle Peter, he played football for Genesee," Becker said.
Talk about a bloodline.
With the number of family members who played football for Genesee, he could be the first to win a State championship in his family and he’s humble about it.
"I think my dad was probably still a better football player than me," Becker said.
In the classroom, Becker has taken the it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
"My GPA has risen considerable from my freshman year to now,” Becker said. “I've worked really hard to get it up. I've just taken a different mentality towards school."
That’s something we can all relate too.
"Johnny Cash is the best singer of all time," Becker proudly said.
Probably not as much.
His favorite song by Johnny Cash is “Cut You Down.”
He says that’s a song he always must play on gamedays.
