P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week: Jared Holstad
PULLMAN, WA —
Like most P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week, they have success on the field and in the classroom and this week’s athlete wants to use the skills he learned in both avenues to help the greater good.
It’s not hard to find the 6’5” Pullman defender on the soccer field.
“From grade school up, I was always the tallest kid or one of the tallest kids,” Holstad said.
Holstad plays football, basketball and soccer for the Greyhounds. His love for football, coming from an interesting place.
“In football, you can be aggressive and I think has been something that I really like,” Holstad said. “Growing up, I was always the little brother that put that aggressive nature in him.”
Jokes on the older brother, “He’s 6’4”, so, I finally got taller than him, which is nice,” Holstad said.
This year has been a special one for Holstad.
His football team made it to the state tournament, and basketball and soccer teams hosting or hosted the Great Northern League title game.
“A good sense of pride that we’ve kind of been able to start something that we’ve been successful with from earlier years,” He said.
Although athletics has been a big part of his life senior year, there’s another activity he’s passionate about.
I got involved with ASB this year. I'm the senior class president," Holstad said.
While he says balancing presidential duties and playing sports can be tough, he's hopeful those skills will translate to the future, planning on majoring in political science at Washington State.
"I’ve always liked the idea of being able to pass law or do something that actually impacts people's lives,” He said. “I think that government is the easiest way for me to do that."
