P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week: Kendyll Kinzer

Falling in love with basketball at a young age, Lewiston Junior Kendyll Kinzer admits she was always active.

"My Grandma was the cheer coach here. So, I just thought it would be cool to be a cheerleader,” Kinzer said. “I did gymnastics and stuff, it wasn't like a big thing, like oh I really wanted to be a cheerleader. I just wanted to do it all."

She’s been hooping since she was in elementary school, playing AAU, club and now high school, her talents are getting her some attention.

"This year, when I got my offer from Santa Clara, which was like the biggest one, the coaches called me and I never really talked to them before,” She said. “They called me and telling me that they're giving me a full-ride offer to come and play for them."

And Santa Clara isn’t her only one.

She already has three division-one college basketball offers. One from Santa Clara, Fresno State and Utah State.

"I was just shocked and my mom was very shocked and I told her, and she was asking me a bunch of questions,” She said.

Going into her junior season, she’s not letting the early success get to her.

"I try to keep my composure and stay humble about it,” She said. “I'm just excited to see what other ones I'm going to get and where I'm going to go."

The 6-foot post says she’s still growing, just recently turning 16. But she says there’s one food that didn’t contribute to her height.

"I hate avocados and guacamole. Sour cream, I hate sour cream, I don't like the texture of it,” Kinzer said.

(I don’t blame her).

She says she’s gaining interest from Washington State as well.

She hopes to make a verbal commitment in the spring.
