P1FCU Prep Athlete of Week: Layton Paul
POTLATCH, ID —
Potlatch senior Layton Paul has been wrestling most of his life.
“I just like how it’s a personal sport,” Paul said. “You get into it what you put out. You just get into the zone and get ready to go.”
And when he’s in his zone, there’s not many better.
Last year he was the 1A-2A 195-pound State champion.
“If felt pretty great.”
And his skills aren’t going unrecognized.
Right now, he has a couple of offers to wrestle in college.
But he’s focused on the moment.
“It take a lot commitment and I don’t know if I’ll be able to five it all that I should give it in college,” Paul said. “Keeping your weight maintained you also have to keep your grades balanced.”
But if he doesn’t hit the mat in college. He has another passion.
“I see a lot of bad things happen and I don’t really like how it’s happening. So, I figured, might as well try to stop it.”
In other words, if you want something done right, you got to do it yourself.
With his criminology degree, he would like to eventually join the FBI.
