P1FCU Prep of Athlete of the Week: Tona Anderson

Every athlete loves to win, but you can’t win all the time.

“Well, not first place. I’m not really sure how many first-place medals, but overall this season, I have 20 medals,” Deary sophomore Tona Anderson has won a lot on the track. “It started in seventh grade when they did the track camp here. I have medals starting from there till now.”

In total, she has 36 medals, hanging up in her room.

Not only is a sprinter, but it seems like she can do it all.

“I was actually really close to getting the school record for high jump here,” she said. “But last year we focused more so on running.”

And for a good reason.

Deary won the state medley last year.

“It feels a lot different, knowing that you’re first place out of all the teams in that division,” she said.

After the season, she’ll still have two more years in high school track ahead of her and knowing that she’s one of the best in the gem state is simply, “surreal” to her.
