ASOTIN, WA- As the school year winds down, some high school athletes are turning dreams into reality. Two Asotin high school seniors are taking their talents in their respective sports to the collegiate level.
Asotin's Haylee Appleford is a track and field athlete. She throws the shotput and the discus, and will be taking her talents right up the road to LC State.
Makayla Wheeler played volleyball all four years for Asotin, and won't be going too far from home either. She's committed to playing for Walla Walla.
Both coaches and family were in attendance, as well as their friends that came out to celebrate their official signing day.
Even better, the two of them are actually close friends. It was a time to come together and celebrate their accomplishments, while also also looking forward to the next step in their careers....
"I've been considering this for a long time, so it's really cool to see other people come out to support me, and one of my best friends is here signing to a college near me," Appleford said.
"I definitely didn't see myself signing with my best friend who is also in the same conference. It'll be exciting to come watch her, as well as her coming to watch me. It's a feeling I can't even describe really," Wheeler said.
